Restaurant celebrating 50 years in Madison County
A staple of Madison County is celebrating a big milestone. The Bavarian Chef, a German-style restaurant in Madison County, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the owner and chef, Jerome Thalwitz, who started the business in 1974 with his parents in 1974. The restaurant continues to be part of the Thalowitz family, despite Thaliewski's father's passing away last year. Thaliwis, who was always proud of the restaurant, said this celebration is bittersweet due to the passing of his father, who died last year and was always so proud of it.

The Bavarian Chef has been cooking up German-style cuisine for 50 years.
“My parents traveled through Madison in 1974, and this little restaurant was for sale,” Jerome Thalwitz, owner and chef, said. “My dad said this area just reminds him so much of upper Bavaria.”
The restaurant continues to be a part of the Thalwitz family.
“My parents were ready to retire and I was ready to go,” the chef said.
Thalwitz says this anniversary celebration is bittersweet: “My father passed away last year and that was very sad for us. So, it’s been been kind of rough, but he he was always so proud of this restaurant,” he said.
