Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have announced that over $102 million has been allocated for financial assistance to 12 municipalities to remove an estimated 15,028 private lead water service lines. The funding will be provided through the Lead Service Line Replacement Program, a subprogram of the federal Safe Drinking Water Loan Program. The program uses funding from former President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which included $50 billion for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to strengthen and rebuild the nation's water infrastructure. Since 2019, Gov. Evers has allocated nearly $500 million to replace lead service lines in all corners of the state.
