Fort Madison's Wade wins playoff over Keokuk's Eckland

KEOKUK -- It was a different and unique format and it yielded a lot of fun and suspense. The Keokuk Invitational high school golf tournament was held in a unique format, with Central Lee winning the tournament by 24 strokes over second-place Fort Madison. The Hawks' total was 24 strokes better than Keokokuk's total of 354, while Keokusk edged Notre Dame-West Burlington by a stroke for third place. The winner of the individual winner was Fort Madison's Brady Wade, who defeated Keokuko's Chase Eckland in a playoff. Other notable winners included Carson Morrison and Carter Jones of Central Lee, who won with an 85, two strokes ahead of Keokunk's Aydan O'Connor and Brayden Picton.

The Hawks' winning total was 24 strokes better than second-place Fort Madison's 354.

Keokuk edged Notre Dame-West Burlington by a stroke for third place. Clark County was fifth and Holy Trinity Catholic sixth.

Fort Madison did have the individual winner after Brady Wade defeated Keokuk's Chase Eckland. Both finished the 18-hole meet with an 82.

Wade won the first playoff hole to take the title.

Each team's No. 1 and No. 2 golfers played their own ball to compete for a medal.

Each team's No. 3 and No. 4 golfers played better ball to compete for a medal.

The better ball medalists were Carson Morrison and Carter Jones of Central Lee who came in with an 85, two strokes ahead of Keokuk's Aydan O'Connor and Brayden Picton, who shot 87.

The Nos. 5 and Nos. 6 played a scramble for a medal.

Central Lee again posted the winning score with a 77 by medalists Bo Herdrich and Cale Clark.

Holy Trinity tied Notre Dame-West Burlington as the runners-up, nine strokes behind the Hawks.

Luke Hellige and Max Kruse posted an 86 as did their Nike counterparts, Brady Martin and Kaiden Dietzenbach, also known as the "Bogey Boys."
