With just over a week left until voters head to the polls, candidates with their sights set on the statehouse are making a final campaign push. Several races in Madison County, Alabama, have seen significant dollar amounts in both Republican and Democrat spending increase in recent weeks. Republican Sam Givhan, seeking to retain his seat in Alabama's Senate, spent $852,100 over the month of September and the first three weeks of October, and personally loaned his campaign $100,000 to challenger Jared Sluss. In the 10th House District, Democrat Marilyn Lands spent $236,860 and $135,441 over the same period, while Democrat Aaron Thomas spent $135.441. In House District 20, incumbent Republican James Lomax has outspent his Democratic challenger, James Linderholm, by $137,258. The first week of October was a big week of fundraising for both candidates, bringing in some of their highest totals for this election cycle.
