Piles of free mulch are available at these Madison parks, due to May 21 storms
Community members are welcome to help themselves, but personal shovels and buckets are required. Free mulch is available at four City of Madison parks, Garner, Demetral, Warner and Elver, due to May 21 storms. The mulch can be found at these parks and is self-serve, with personal shovels and buckets required. This is due to tree damage from the storm that hit Madison and related clean up. The Streets Division will restock sites when they are emptied, as long as material availability allows.

Lots of free mulch is available to residents at four City of Madison parks.
Mulch can be found at Garner, Demetral, Warner and Elver parks. Community members are welcome to help themselves to the mulch, but personal shovels and buckets are required, as it is self-serve, said Bryan Johnson, recycling coordinator for City of Madison Streets Division.
"The mulch in the parks is related to the tree damage from the May 21 storm that hit Madison, and the related clean up," Johnson said in a statement.
Madison Streets Division said in a news release on May 24 that in the past when free mulch has been made available, it has gone fast, but according to Johnson there is still "plenty of mulch available," so residents are welcome to help themselves.
The Streets Division will restock sites when they are emptied as long as material availability allows, according to the news release.
