Madison Square Garden puts out second statement regarding ring night, phishing email
Madison Square Garden says "There is a great deal of misinformation regarding the championship rings." Madison Square Garden has issued a second statement regarding The Athletic's story about the New York Knicks not giving away championship rings to assistant coaches and various employees at the team's season opener, as well as a phishing email sent to employees as a cybersecurity test. The statement refuted any inaccuracies in The Athletic’s reporting and stated that the plan had always been to distribute 275 rings and jewelry to those who were part of the organization who were instrumental in last season's success. The decision to use the ring as a security tool was a mistake and an apology for the use of it. The Knicks lost their opener to the Philadelphia 76ers and fell to the Boston Celtics on the road Friday night.
