'Birds can't overcome Badgers in WNIT Super 16

Illinois State fell behind by 18 points in the first half before a third-quarter surge led them to level the score at 56-46. The Badgers responded with an 11-1 run to take back the lead. Wilson led with 20 points and 9 rebounds in her final collegiate game, finishing her career with 1,545 points and 867 rebounds. She is one of two players in program history to score 1,500 career points and 800 career rebounds.

MADISON, Wis. – Illinois State Women's Basketball (22-12, 13-7 MVC) fell 81-68 at the hands of Wisconsin (15-16, 2-16 Big Ten) in Thursday's WNIT Super 16 matchup at Kohl Center, ending the Redbirds 2023-2024 campaign.

• Illinois State fell behind by 18 points in the first half before a third-quarter surge cut away at the Badger lead. The Redbirds trailed 50-34 at half, but and brought Illinois State within striking distance. Behind eight points from Dowell, the Redbirds went on a 12-4 run to make it a 56-46 game at the 5:08 mark of the third quarter. The Badgers answered with an 11-1 run to jump back ahead by 18 and effectively put away Illinois State for good.

• Wilson led Illinois State with 20 points and 9 rebounds in her final collegiate game. She was 7-for-19 from the field and tallied one block with two steals.

• Dowell scored 17 points, after putting up 7 during a strong first quarter for the freshman. She also had 3 rebounds 2 assists and 1 steal in the effort.

• Wisconsin shot 32-for-62 (51.6%) from the field and 9-for-19 (47.4%) in its win and put five players in double figures.

• Wilson finishes her career with 1,545 points (7th in program history), 867 rebounds (2nd in program history), 395 career free throws (2nd in program history) and 25 career double-doubles (4th in program history). She is one of two players in program history, along with WBB Hall of Famer Cathy Boswell, to score 1,500 career points and grab 800 career rebounds.

• Dowell scored in double-figures in 17 games this season, the most by any true freshman in the era.

• shot 86.5 percent from the free throw line this year, leading Illinois State in that category for the third consecutive season. She is the first player in program history to lead Illinois State in free throw percentage in three straight seasons.
