Bald eagle shot in Dane Co. dies of lead poisoning

There is a $1,000 reward being offered to anyone who knows information about a bald eagle that was shot in Dane County and later died from lead poisoning. A bald eagle was shot near the Village of Brooklyn in Dane County, Wisconsin, two weeks ago and later died from lead poisoning. The bird was brought to Hoo's Woods Raptor Center, a raptor education and rehabilitation center near Milton, but died less than 24 hours later. The bullet was lodged in her beak and high levels of lead poisoning were found. It is a federal crime to wound or kill a bald eagle. Information is being provided via the Wisconsin DNR's Violation Hotline at 1-800-847-9367.

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV) - There is a $1,000 reward being offered to anyone who knows information about a bald eagle that was shot in Dane County and later died from lead poisoning.

A post on social media by Hoo’s Woods Raptor Center, a raptor education and rehabilitation center located near Milton, says a female bald eagle was shot near the Village of Brooklyn about two weeks ago.

The bald eagle was brought to their facility but died less than 24 hours later. X-rays show the bullet was lodged in her beak and she had high levels of lead poisoning.

It is a federal crime to wound or kill a bald eagle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wisconsin DNR’s Violation Hotline at 1-800-847-9367.
