UW-Madison data center contract moves from Fitchburg to Milwaukee firm
Administrators say Data Holdings will help meet growing demand for the Wisconsin flagship’s computing needs. The transition will cost about $17 million. The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) has decided to partner with Milwaukee-based Data Holdings for some of its data center needs. The move comes as the university struggles with questions about artificial intelligence and its ability to secure new grants and contracts. The transition will cost about $17 million and be funded by UW-Madison. Data Holdings, owned by the Forest County Potawatomi Community tribe in northern Wisconsin, is a subsidiary company of Potawawatom Ventures. The company’s customers include government, healthcare, hospitality and other organizations. The university also operates its own data centers on campus for specific research and administrative needs.
