Madison County has awarded more than $1.3 million in funding for various park and recreation projects in communities county-wide. Madison County Board member and Grants Committee Chair Denise Wiehardt tells The Big Z the PEP grants program is of great benefit county-wide.

The Madison County Board approved the package of grants at its last meeting. Funding for the grant is provided through a 1/10th of one-percent sales tax that was passed in 2000. The funding is combined with city, village, township, and park district funds to finance projects.

Foster Township: $15,500 – Addressing minimal drainage issues, ADA walking paths, mulch for ground and around swings (ADA) and other park equipment

Godfrey Village: $97,939 – Glazebrook Park – pickleball lights, shade structures, pitching machines, portable backstop, windscreens, trash cans, baseball / softball equipment. Mower that will service all parks.

Roxana Comm. Park Dist.: $15,000 – Purchase new tables and chairs for Rox-Arena, 10 additional chaise lounges for the swimming deck.

Wood River City: $57,552 – Partial repayment of PEP loan, Remaining funds to be used to purchase a utility vehicle sprayer for treatment of their parks.

Wood River Township: $26,804.71 – Repairing & resurfacing existing pavement, install new pickleball court $ new fence around the perimeter
