MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Before you head to the polls on Tuesday, it’s important to know who will be on your ballot and who will not be.

In Dane County, 10 of the 37 Board Supervisors are not running for re-election.

Dane County Board Chair and Board Supervisor for District 34 Patrick Miles says this is due to a number of things.

“This will be the third cycle now where we have nearly a third of the board turning over,” he said. “That’s a bit unusual. So, with each of those, that volume of turnover, you do see fresh voices and new ideas, new approaches. So that’s one thing that will be a little different.”

Miles says a number of people on the County Board are either in their first or second term. Plus, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi will retire in May.

He adds, the pandemic was also a factor.

“Two cycles ago there was a number of people that were elected that never met each other in person and it was just a very different dynamic and I think for some people it was a different experience than they had anticipated and chose not to run again,” Miles said.

Miles said Board Supervisors range from serving a couple of terms to dedicating decades of service to the county.

He adds after redistricting every ten years, there tends to be turnover as well, which happened recently.

“So I guess to a certain degree I am a little surprised that there are ten,” he said. “But it is what it is.”

The County Board supervisors serve two-year terms, with elections falling in even-numbered years.
