MADISON — A legal settlement has been made between the California-based Sierra Club’s Wisconsin Chapter and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regarding data center development in the state.The DNR A legal settlement has been reached between the Sierra Club’s Wisconsin Chapter and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regarding data center development in the state. The DNR is required to conduct a comprehensive statewide review of the environmental impacts of data center developments. The Sierra Club filed a lawsuit against the DNR in July challenging its decision to issue permits for Port Washington’�s $15 billion data center project without first conducting an environmental impact statement. The statewide review makes Wisconsin one of the few states taking a comprehensive look at the environmental impact of data centers. The settlement also requires the DNF to provide opportunities for public engagement and input during the strategic analysis process.
