UWPD says pig CO2-stunning video claimed to be recorded on campus appears fabricated

Ryan Blum, a recent UW–Madison graduate, told WMTV in September that he secretly entered the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery Building after months of planning and recorded pigs undergoing carbon dioxide stunning. University of Wisconsin-Madison Police (UWPD) has stated that a video claimed to have been fabricated by animal rights activist Ryan Blum, who claimed to secretly recorded pigs undergoing carbon dioxide stunning inside the university's Meat Science facility. The department stated that the video appears heavily edited using publicly available clips, including footage from non-UW facilities, and that a portion of Blum's video matches publicly available footage recorded at a slaughterhouse near Benalla, Australia. After reviewing the claims and video, UWPD no longer investigating the alleged break-in. The university confirmed that its Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery Building has a carbon dioxide system, but could not verify the footage was recorded there.
