UW-Madison alum says he misrepresented public footage as campus pig gas chamber
Alumnus and animal activist Ryan Blum told the Cardinal he edited existing footage from a gas chamber in Australia and presented it as footage of the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD)’s campus gas chamber for meat research. Ryan Blum, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has claimed he misrepresented public footage from an Australian gas chamber as his own footage of the university's gas chamber for pigs. Blum had launched a campaign against the use of the facility at the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) laboratory building in September, claiming he sneaked into the building in spring 2026 and captured footage of pigs in the chamber. University spokesperson Chris Barncard challenged Blum’s claim in an email to The Daily Cardinal, stating that the footage was taken from another publicly available video made in 2015 by activists associated with Farm Transparency Project. Blumb admitted to editing the original footage and expressed deep remorse for misrepresenting his investigation of the gas chamber.
