Heroes Hangout helps community meet Madison County first responders
Marshall Police Chief Kenny Brown said the events help to facilitate more interaction between first responders and community members. Local law-enforcement agencies and advocacy organizations gathered at a Heroes Hangout event in Marshall, North Carolina, on Oct. 24. The event was held at Marshall's Blannahassett Island, a 10-acre tract in the middle of the French Broad River. The participating agencies included the Madison County Sheriff's Office, Marshall Fire Department, Walnut Community Fire Department and Mars Hill Fire Department. Marshall Police Chief Kenny Brown hopes these events will help to open up lines of communication between first responders and local residents without needing to appear at town board meetings. The Heroes Hangouts were also used to host a drug takeback event.
