Madison County buys $5 million property for temporary courthouse

The AT&T Building will be one of two buildings temporarily housing courthouse operations. The Madison County Commission has voted to purchase a $5 million property, the AT&T Building, as a temporary location for the current courthouse while it is being demolished and rebuilt. The commissioners argued that purchasing the ATandT building would be a better use of taxpayers' money than renting it. The commission also plans to sell one county-owned property to help cover costs. The purchase and sale of the Grant Building are expected to be finalised by January 2027. Renovations to the temporary courthouse buildings are expected by the first quarter of 2028.
