3 months after Corey Ruiz’s death, Glass takes the fall

Natalie Eilbert: The firing of Madison interim independent police monitor Aeiramique Glass is a distraction from police killing a Black man on the street. The mother of slain Corey Ruiz, Elsa Ruiz attended a 12-hour Madison City Council meeting that led to the termination of the city’s interim independent monitor, Aeiramique Glass, following her death three months after her son's death. Ruiz had been a central presence in the community since her son was murdered by Madison Police Officer Kiel Baitinger-Peterson in July. She praised Glass for her "superb job" and supported her family's fight for justice. However, three months later, she is the only city official to face permanent consequences following the death of Ruiz. The vote to remove Glass was effective immediately. Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is leaving her job voluntarily and will finish her term in mid-April.
