Here's what happens when Robert Plant shows up at your Madison record store

Robert Plant, a solo singer and songwriter, visited Steve Manley's Madison record store, B-Side Records on Monday. Plant was in town for a performance with American bluegrass singer Alison Krauss at Breese Stevens Field. Manley, a major fan of Plant, left Plant alone for a half hour before he bought the record "The Window" by indie rock band Ratboys. He also signed one of Plant's CDs for Manley and his wife. The visit was described as an honor by Manley.

Steve Manley was working at his State Street record store, B-Side Records, on Monday when a curious customer came in.
Plant, who tours as a solo singer and songwriter, was in town to perform with American bluegrass singer Alison Krauss Saturday at Breese Stevens Field.
Manley, a major fan, said he “tried not to freak out” while he left Plant alone to shop at B-Side for the next half hour.
Eventually, Plant came up to the checkout counter and asked Manley what was playing over the store’s sound system. It was “The Window,” by indie rock band Ratboys. Plant ended up buying the record, Manley said.
“When he approached me, that’s when I made my move,” Manley said. “I told him that my wife and I had driven down to Chicago to see him six years ago for our anniversary.
“I had him sign one of his own CDs, which he was enthusiastic about,” Manley said. “He signed it for myself and my wife.”
“He talked about how much he enjoyed that record, and he had me play it in the store,” Manley said.
“It was an honor,” said Manley, who posted about the visit on the store’s Facebook page. “It was pretty exciting.”
