MADISON (WKOW) -- A man accused of firing a gun at a south side home and leading police on a chase has been arrested, according to the Madison Police Department.

Spokesperson Stephanie Fryer said officers were called to the 1000 block of Moorland Road around 9:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Dispatch received a report that an intoxicated man was attending a family gathering. He was asked to leave upon becoming belligerent. The man, who police identify as 49-year-old Sherman M. Street, later returned and fired a round at the house, according to Fryer.

Several children and adults were inside the home when the weapon was fired. None of them were physically injured.

Street was in a white SUV when officers arrived at the scene. He nearly hit responding officers as he sped away from the area, according to Fryer.

Street did not pull over for officers in front of the home and continued westbound down Moorland Road. He was eventually taken into custody near Moorland and Raywood Roads. His vehicle was running and facing oncoming traffic.

Street was asked by multiple officers to leave the vehicle, but he ignored their commands, Fryer said. A K-9 was used to help arrest Street. Two guns were found inside his vehicle.

One of the officers responding to the scene was involved in a crash. That officer was treated at the hospital for their injuries and released.

Traffic was shut down in the area as a result of the traffic stop and crash.

Street was taken to the hospital before being taken to jail. He was arrested for first-degree recklessly endangering safety, third-offense OWI, eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting, knowingly fleeing an officer and battery.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
