Madison in 1982: the last time the Brewers were in the World Series

We dug through the Cap Times archives to see what Madison was like 44 years ago, the last time the Brewers made the World Series. The last time the Milwaukee Brewers were in the World Series was in 1982, when the team played in Game 1 of the World Championship. The issue of The Capital Times was published on Oct. 23, 1982, with staff writer Virginia Mayo writing about utility costs after a judge ruled that companies could not pass higher fuel costs on customers. The city was also preparing for election season. While some of the issues have changed since then, many of the core concerns the Cap Times covered remain, including the threat of computers and their impact on University of Wisconsin-Madison students. The paper also covered the University ofWisconsin System President Robert O'Neil's proposal to raise tuition at UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee from $994 to $1,100 annually.
